Immigration Reform: What Current Policy is not Addressing
Please Join Us For Heinz Forum this Thursday!
According to the Pew Research Center there were 40.1 million immigrants living in the US in 2011, a 30 percent increase from the immigrant population in the year 2000. Immigrants without a US citizenship status make up 55 percent of the immigrant population. Unauthorized immigrants account for 28 percent of the foreign born population. About 34% of the foreign born population have no health insurance.
In 2010, 8 percent of all children born in the US were born to undocumented immigrants. While most foreign born children are English proficient, only about half of adult immigrants are English proficient. What does this mean for the US economy, identity, and legal system?
This article is about the border security. The author raised the question that even with immigration reform what would be new policies concerning the costly and inefficient U.S/Mexican border?
