Dr. Kamlet is a professor of economics and public policy and a former provost who has been with Carnegie Mellon University since 1976. His research focuses on the economic impacts of automation and AI. In this episode, he explains the history of machine learning at CMU, the development of Pittsburgh since the collapse of the local steel industry, and how the two are related. 

Dr. Kamlet shares his insight on why machine learning will have such a dramatic effect on humanity in the near future, and what we might need to change in response.
