About Heinz Journal

The Heinz Journal is a student conceived and student-run publication dedicated to showcasing the link between analysis and theory and policy implementation. The Journal seeks to fill a crucial gap in depicting research in a manner approachable by public policy practitioners and policy makers.

The Heinz Journal was originally conceived of at a meeting of students and program administrators of the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University. An exploratory committee of six students was established to investigate the creation of a policy journal that reflects the School’s reputation for leveraging applications driven theory. Thanks to founding members Erin Dalton, Maricela Flores, Juniper Leherissey, Michael Niemeyer, Tim Weidemann and Candice Wright this idea is coming to fruition.

The Heinz Journal offers a medium to showcase the quality work product of its students, faculty, alumni and other public policy professionals and scholars.

Our Mission

The Heinz Journal seeks to enhance the academic and professional interests of the students, faculty and alumni of the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management by publishing quality work with a functional focus. The Journal supports the school’s interdisciplinary approach, drawing from different perspectives to study and understand society. HJ highlights innovative solutions realized through the use of policy analysis, management, leadership, and information technology.

Our Vision

The Heinz Journal is the premier vehicle for exploring issues regarding public policy, public and non-profit management and technology. The Journal creates a vibrant community of discourse that affects social change while retaining the school’s unique, interdisciplinary approach to examining societal issues.

The articles published in the Journal and the opinions expressed by the authors do not necessarily represent the views of the Heinz College.
